FAQs

I have driven past your building on Campbell Avenue, but I don’t see an entrance or any parking. How do I get in?

Turn on to Victor Avenue at the light. Go one block and turn left. You should see our parking lot from there. There are spots near the building for visitors that may be available. You can find directions here.

OK, I’m in the parking lot. It still is not obvious how I enter the building.

As you approach the buildings, you will see a breeze way between the two. As you walk down the passage you will enter a courtyard. In this area, we have a guest ministries table plus other informational tables which may interest you. The main auditorium is to your left. The education building is on the right. If you arrive during regularly scheduled times, there will be members in the parking area and in the courtyard to direct you.

I am in the “auditorium” now. This does not look like most church buildings I have been in. Why is that?

Our building is used for many purposes, so it does look different from most sanctuaries. Campbell Christian Schools is one of our important ministries here. They use this building for plays, concerts and other activities. As a church, we also have various large group activities which this room accommodates. For these reasons, we have movable chairs instead of fixed pews. We normally place the chairs to face the stage the long wall to allow a more friendly setting.

I have never heard of the Church of Christ. What kind of a church is this?

The Church of Christ has been identified by church historians as a distinct group using that name since 1850. Our roots would certainly go back to the Reformation period. Deeper still, it is our goal to be all that Jesus Christ desires that a community wearing his name should be—a people living in love with Him and with each other. Churches of Christ are independent congregations with no larger organization. The community that meets at Campbell is diverse ethically, economically, and politically, yet unified in our longing to accurately represent the body of Jesus Christ to our world.

Why don’t I see a piano, organ, or other instrument?

Traditionally our church has used acappella singing—no musical instruments—in our formal worship. Our praise team leads in the different parts. We have come to love it and think you will too.

How will I know what to do during the services?

We follow a basic pattern of worship that has been found in churches throughout history. We sing, we pray, we read the Bible, we take part in communion, give an offering and have a sermon. The exact order for any given Sunday is found here or as you walk into our auditorium. We also have a weekly bulletin called the "Celebrate," which are available in racks just as you enter the auditorium.

The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. You won’t have to worry about knowing when to sit and stand, or what to do next. The words to the songs are projected on the screens up front. Our services sometimes incorporate video, multimedia and other forms of the arts to communicate important truths and issues. The goal through it all—the music, the scriptures, the message, the prayers, the communion—is to lose ourselves in the story of God. Sometimes our time together will be mysterious, sometimes, funny, sometimes serious, and sometimes ironic because the story of God is sometimes all of these.
