Worship this week
Joy—I once heard it said that it was more than just a feeling but this sort of quiet confidence we feel because of the freedom we have from sin through Jesus Christ; even more, the promise we have of an eternal existence with him because we believe.
Joy is a theme we see through the pages of the Bible. Israel maintained a confident joy despite the struggles and hardships they faced. As they waited, they held tight to a promise of joyous redemption we see in Isaiah 51:11. We see joy proclaimed in an angel’s announcement of the Messiah as he declares that this birth will bring great joy to the people (Luke 2:10).
It’s this joy, it’s this redemption, it’s this promise of his return that fuels our living and, yes, our waiting. As we gather Sunday, consider what the Lord has done, and may it fill you with abundant joy!
